The department, along with its partners, the Centre for Health Economics, the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination and the Hull York Medical School, is in the top ten nationally, coming 7th out of 32 institutions in the highly competitive Unit of Assessment for public health, health services and primary care.
The quality, breadth and volume of the department’s research activity is shown by the fact that 83% of activity submitted by our academic staff has been rigorously judged as world leading or internationally excellent.
The department also ranked equal first nationally for its research environment, one that is conducive to producing research of world-leading quality, in terms of its vitality and sustainability.
Prof , Deputy Head Research, said: “The REF is a rigorous assessment process that has shown how excellent our department’s research base is and it is particularly gratifying to see that a high proportion of our work here is judged to be of the highest international quality.
“Sixty staff submitted work and most was recognised as being of an international standard. This has been a real team effort and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to such a successful REF profile for the department.”
The University of York as a whole performed well in the latest REF, being ranked 14th overall and 10th for the impact of its research. For further information on how the university performed, follow the link.
