Tenth annual diabetes conference for York

In its tenth year, the conference will offer a valuable and stimulating day for those working in the delivery of diabetes care. Organised by a multi-disciplinary team of diabetes practitioners, The Changing Nature of Diabetes aims to generate debate and provide workable solutions for day-to-day clinical diabetes issues.
Celebrating the 80th year of Diabetes UK and the opportunities within diabetes care, speakers will include premier scientists, clinicians and influential leaders in the field. They will discuss the prevention of diabetes, best practice for working in partnership with people who have diabetes.
Anne Phillips, Senior Lecturer in Diabetes Care in the Department of Health Sciences at York said: “Providing excellent education for healthcare professionals offers an incentive to develop care for everyone with diabetes, wherever and whenever they require it. This conference is an excellent opportunity for clinicians to update, refresh knowledge, network and engage with each other to develop the best we can within diabetes care provision.”
She recently won a national award from the Quality in Care (QiC) programme for Outstanding Educator in Diabetes. Recognising good practice in patient care, the QiC programme is supported by healthcare professionals, charities and the NHS. QiC Diabetes is run by the PMGroup and is fully funded by Sanofi.
Carole Gelder, Children’s Diabetes Nurse Specialist in Leeds and Lecturer at the University of York, said on behalf of the QiC: “With a strong philosophy of collaborative teamwork and patient-centred care, Anne has a proven track record as both a Diabetes Specialist Nurse and as an outstanding diabetes educator. Fundamentally, Anne’s drive and passion ensures clinical practice influences the development of clinically relevant academic modules and also that evidence and theory can influence practice, acting as a prompt catalyst for change.”
The Changing Nature of Diabetes takes place on Tuesday 11 November, 9.00am – 4.30pm at the Ebor Suite, York Racecourse.
