Engagement and Widening Participation

The Department of Health Sciences supports engagement and widening participation activities within the Department and the University. We hold a social event for staff each year and staff are offered the opportunity to attend the staff Christmas party.

As a Department, Health Sciences is committed to ensuring that students from all socio-economic backgrounds can access study and thrive academically during their time at York. Undergraduate nursing and midwifery students can join either the Nursing Society (NurSoc) or Midwifery Society (MidSoc) when the start studying with us. 

We aim to make the research performed within our research groups accessible to other departments, schools and the public. We organise one of two Open Lectures each year and admission is free and registration for Open Lectures is via Eventbrite. 

The Department also takes part in activities with local schools and colleges and can give advice about careers in healthcare.
