Profile

Biography

Sarah has a background in biochemistry and Health Services Research. She has more than 20 years’ experience coordinating and managing large scale multi-centred pragmatic randomised controlled trials in both primary and secondary care in the fields of podiatry, cardiology and osteoporosis.  As well as being involved in the day-to-day running of trials, she has experience of many trial aspects, including recruitment, methodological issues and design.

Research

Overview

Sarah's research interests are in pragmatic randomised trials of treatments for osteoporosis; podiatry treatments, heart failure and trial methodology.

Projects

• CASCADE - Case finding for depression in primary care: a regression discontinuity design
• EXTEND – An RCT determining the effectiveness of longer antibiotic courses in improving intra-abdominal infection patient outcomes
• PORTRAIT - an RCT investigating whether pain and quality of life are improved with post-operative radiotherapy compared to no radiotherapy and whether radiotherapy reduces the likelihood of further surgery in the future

• Breathmore - Does prescribing slow release daily morphine tablets to individuals with heart failure helps with breathlessness.
