Nilam is a research associate in DIAMONDS URDU, an NIHR-funded RCT exploring the feasibility of translating original DIAMONDS study into Urdu language, for South Asian people self-managing diabetes and severe mental illness. Alongside a fidelity assessment, the experiences of participants and their carers will be investigated as well as a direct comparison with DIAMONDS, which offered materials in English.
Nilam has previously conducted research at Loughborough University and the NHS. In her previous role, she was Project Lead for the
PROWORK return-to-work Mental Health project, which was funded by the UK Department for Work and Pensions. She supported workplace mental health for people on long-term sick leave through offering them a toolkit and performing interviews. She also collaborated on consultation work with a project funded by the Lord Mayor’s appeal during her time at Loughborough University. Nilam further advises on community engagement and recruitment strategies for the Charnwood Active Healthy Living project at the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, in Loughborough University.
Nilam also worked as a Research Fellow on the Wellcome-funded Born in Bradford, Age of Wonder longitudinal birth cohort study. She
successfully recruited and established collaborative relationships with over 20 schools and stakeholders. Nilam was instrumental in providing outputs for the mental health and wellbeing outcomes from BiB Age of Wonder and actively supported collation of both quantitative and qualitative data for the study.
Nilam is an ELIXIR-UK Fellow (2022), and delivered workshops in data management. She has also acted as supervisor to Masters of Public Health students at the University of Bradford.
