Mike qualified as a registered nurse in Hull, initially working in a cardio thoracic ICU, before specialising within community nursing. He qualified as a district nurse in 2004 after undertaking his specialist practice qualification at the University of Hull.
Over the past few years Mike has worked within a number of district nursing teams within the Hull area, subsequently going on to qualify - in 2008 - as a practice teacher, taking on the role of district nurse practice teacher with the overall responsibility for maintaining standards within the clinical environment. In addition, Mike was involved in the assessment and support of student district nurses during their clinical placement.
Prior to joining the Department of Health Sciences Mike was seconded to the University Of Hull as a lecturer practitioner.
In 2013 Mike received the title of Queen’s Nurse from the Queen’s Nursing Institute (QNI) in recognition of his commitment to the delivery of high standards of care as a district nurse.
Mike is interested in the field of community nursing including tissue viability, end of life care and nurse education.
Mike’s research interests are in the field of district nursing and clinical leadership. As part of his dissertation Mike explored “The role of the Practice Teacher and Community Nursing Leadership in the provision of high quality care”.
