Biography
Giorgia joined York Trials Unit as a Qualitative Research Fellow in April 2023. Her skills are qualitative methods in healthcare research, including ethnography, participatory, and visual methods. Giorgia is passionate about addressing health inequalities and promoting EDI within research and she enjoys using creative methods to enhance engagement in research and disseminate findings beyond academia.
Giorgia is currently working on an NIHR Public Health study looking at the role played by food aid organisations in the community in reducing food insecurity in Bradford and London.
In addition to her role at the University of York, Giorgia is also a Research Fellow at Bradford Institute for Health Research, where she has worked on patient safety since 2021, as part of the Quality and Safety Research Group. Her role has included conducting research to enhance medicine self-management in the older frail population and supporting patients' and family members’ involvement in healthcare research.
Before joining the Bradford Institute of Health Research, Giorgia worked at the Centre for Applied Dementia Studies, University of Bradford. There she conducted research on the impact of COVID on care home staff, supported the involvement of people living with dementia in research and supported the Alzheimer’s Society-funded Doctoral Training Centre.
Giorgia's doctoral research took place in Italy at the University of Genova, where she was awarded her PhD (Social Research Methodology - Qualitative). Her thesis was ethnography exploring political consumerism and alternative food systems.
Before going back to research, Giorgia has worked across a range of sectors, including social care, tourism and event management and in higher education, both in Italy and in the UK.
