Gareth is an NIHR Pre-doctoral Fellow and Research Assistant in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York. Gareth co-ordinates the evaluation of the Ready to Relate cards; an interactive resource to help practitioners discuss parent-infant relationships with families. He also works across other projects within the Family Wellbeing Team in the Department of Health Sciences.
Gareth’s research interests are in using epidemiological and psychometric methods to understand adolescent mental health and parent-infant relationships. He is currently undertaking an NIHR Pre-doctoral Fellowship with a focus on understanding the relationship between parent mental health difficulties and parent-rated scores of their children on the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire.
Gareth is a Health and Care Professions Council registered Paramedic with experience in Emergency Care, Occupational Health, and research within the NHS. Following this, Gareth completed an MSc in Health Research at the University of York. His dissertation used a secondary analysis of a cohort study to investigate associations between limiting longstanding illnesses and psychological distress
in UK adolescents.
