Eslam is a humanitarian doctor, public health clinician, researcher and an avid teacher. He worked for over 8 years with Médecins Sans Frontières across Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Egypt and Turkey leading the humanitarian response. His projects have included responding to complex migration issues within conflicts, epidemic response, managing sexual violence programmes and delivering childhood immunization and nutrition interventions.
Eslam’s background is as a clinician specialising in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and he has worked in Sexual and Reproductive health programmes in Egypt. He has a MSc in Public Health for Development from London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and is currently completing his DrPH in Humanitarian Practice and Policy.
He is a visiting lecturer at LSHTM teaching in areas including Current Issues in Perinatal and Maternal Health, Principles and Practice of Public Health and Health Policy, Practice and Power.
Eslam’s research interests are in maternal health in conflict settings.
During his time with MSF he worked on cross sectional, retrospective and prospective studies in humanitarian settings.

Eslam would be interested in supervising PhD students in the area of maternal health in humanitarian settings, in particular in access to services, and quality of care.
