Specialising in haematological malignancies, Alex is an epidemiologist with a strong track record in cancer research. Training and working at the universities of Cambridge and Leeds before moving to York in 2004, Alex is the Co-Director of the Epidemiology and Cancer Statistics Group. She is also a founding member of the Haematological Malignancy Research Network (HMRN); a unique, population-based, patient cohort that was established by researchers at the University of York and NHS clinicians to inform contemporary clinical practice and research in an area where good quality “real-world” data were lacking. In addition to her leading role in HMRN, Alex is a key member of the European Myelodysplastic Syndromes Registry (EUMDS) and the Horizon 2020-funded MDS-RIGHT; under her direction, all data collected from 17 countries are managed and analysed at the University of York.
