Set up your IT account

Your University of York IT Access

For the duration of your studies with us, you will have access to a range of IT services provided by the university. You will receive a user name (which has letters and numbers, eg. abc123) and a password.

Using these details, you will be able to use an email address (abc123@york.ac.uk), the full Google Workspace (Gmail, Google Drive etc.), Microsoft Office 365 and a lot more.

Important: Activate your York IT account now

You must change your IT password that you have received from us before you start your studies.

  • Go to the York Identity Manager: https://idm.york.ac.uk/
  • Log in using your user name (abc123 format) and your password;
  • Confirm your date of birth;
  • Accept the IT Services regulations;
  • Set up four security questions and answers;
  • Choose a new password;
  • Note down your password (or just make sure you remember it)

After this, it may take up to 15 minutes for your Google Workspace account to be activated.
