Rebecca’s PhD project explores carbon sequestration (termed “Blue carbon”) in UK coastal habitats and incorporates this into economic modelling of wider “ecosystem services” (e.g. pollinator habitat, flood defence; toxin biodegradation, spiritual values, etc) that a place can provide globally and/or locally. It is multidisciplinary, considering physical, biological and socioeconomic processes, and shall work closely with a particular coastal case study site. Rebecca has an Integrated Masters in Biology degree, from which she brings concepts and knowledge to complement the environmental and economic backgrounds of the wider team.
Rebecca has previously worked in a microbiology laboratory on legume rhizobia, also in a low-carbon recycling team and has co-authored a review paper on plastic waste management, which is under peer review. She currently co-runs an inclusive LGBTQIA+ group in a local church.
