PhD TAC and Upgrading meetings
Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC) meetings
TAC meetings occur twice a year throughout a PhD, between the student, the supervisor(s) and one other member of staff, internal or external.
The student is required to bring the following to this meeting:
- A report on progress to date, and any future plans
- A report on training undertaken since the last meeting and in the last year. This can be a print out of the training you have entered into Skills Forge
- Include in your report any chapters in draft, and any specific advances since the last TAC meeting
- Monitor your progress, and identify training needs
Upgrading meetings
Upgrading meetings occur at 18 months from registration, and complete the upgrade from the MPhil to PhD qualification.
The student is required to bring the following to this meeting:
- A draft of chapter one (introduction)
- A clear statement of the hypotheses being tested in the research
- A detailed thesis plan showing knowledge of theoretical and analytical/experimental approaches that can be used
- One results-type chapter in draft form
- A realistic timetable for the completion of the research
- A summary of research training activities to date
