University launches new Women in Enterprise event series

News | Posted on Wednesday 15 March 2023

The University has launched a new series of events focusing on the lived experiences of women across a range of sectors and roles within enterprise

The events will focus on the stories of women, from all levels of business and within a wide variety of business sectors, considering how they have overcome social bias and barriers to business and discussing what is required to remove the necessity for continued gender equality conversations over the next decade.

We’re delighted to welcome speakers from the local social enterprise and creative sectors for our initial events.

Professor Kiran Trehan, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for partnerships and engagement, who will launch the series on the 20th April at the Guildhall in York said “A diverse entrepreneurial population can be our region’s greatest strength, with female entrepreneurs right at the forefront of that drive. The Rose Report showed the huge progress the region has made supporting female entrepreneurs and we’re delighted to be able to further support this work”.

Recognising the strength of allies within this conversation all genders are warmly invited to attend the events, to build greater understanding of the different perspectives and to identify how we can share best practice and support one another.

Sam Gardner, Director of Enterprise Works, the University’s small business hub, who will be hosting the events, said “We believe in the power of enterprise and entrepreneurship as a driver for social change. This ethos drives our continued support for the diverse community of entrepreneurs on our campus, in our city, in our region and beyond. We’re delighted to be leading this new events series to better understand the incredible contributions of women to all aspects of enterprise, and to understand how we can better support them.”
