From Apathy to Autonomy: Neoliberalism and American Fiction in the Long Nineties

Description
My PhD project explores the American art and fiction of the long nineties (1989-2001), focusing on a variety of authors, filmmakers, and visual artists in the context of the socio-economic formation of neoliberalism. Specifically, I'm interested in the ways in which artists working in the long nineties manifest a resistance to neoliberal political philosophy in the their work, primarily through experimental aesthetic strategies. My research is funded by WRoCAH.
Further Information
I am also an AHRC IPS Fellow. In spring 2017 I will be carrying out my fellowship at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, TX, where I will be engaging in archival research in the Don DeLillo collection.
Alongside my PhD activities I co-organise the Freedom After Neoliberalism research strand at the university. This research project hosts regular reading groups and occasional guest speaker events. In summer 2017 we will also be holding a conference on the theme.
Byond my primary research, I have broad research interests in the politics of aesthetics, transgression and abjection, capitalism and postcapitalism, and videogames and narrative game studies.
