To celebrate the launch of
Castles from Cobwebs by York’s very own
Juliana Mensah, publishing as J.A. Mensah, we are delighted that Juliana will be joining us for the March instalment of the Quiet Place Book Club.
Castles from Cobwebsl tells the story of Imani, a foundling who is raised by nuns on a Northumbrian island and whose life shifts after a phone call, aged nineteen, sends her on a tale of self-discovery to Ghana.
I'd always known that I was Brown. Black was different though; it came announced. Black came with expectations, of rhythm and other things that might trip me up.
The novel has been described as "real, powerful and unique", “spellbinding", and a "compelling exploration of memory, race, mothers and the fractured self.” Castles from Cobwebs won the inaugural NorthBound Book Award (2019), a collaboration between New Writing North and Saraband.
We have teamed up with Fox Lane Books to offer discounted copies of
Castles from Cobwebs (Saraband, 2021) complete with signed bookplates. The first 25 orders will also receive free UK delivery - find out more
