PhD student, Gertrude Gibbons, curates 'Performing across Frontiers' archival exhibition in Italy
Warm congratulations to current PhD student, Gertrude Gibbons, who has recently curated an exhibition in collaboration with Giulio Pampiglione as part of the Spoleto Civic Museum's programme during the prestigious arts festival (Festival of Two Worlds) in Spoleto, Italy.
The exhibition, titled 'Performing across Frontiers', on theatre company the Atelier di Formia, displayed material from the archive of the company's director, the theatre-maker and translator Giovanni Pampiglione. The display told the story of the Atelier's formation, and considered Pampiglione's place as a translator between Polish and Italian, and the company's search for a universal language of theatre.
The exhibition was hosted at the Palazzo Collicola, Museum of Modern Art, celebrating the Atelier's presence in Spoleto and their final production taking place there during the festival in July 1984, of Bruno Jasieński's The Mannequins' Ball (1931), and included photographs by Tommaso Le Pera and newly-digitised original sound recordings by Alvin Curran.
You can read more about the exhibition on the Palazzo Collicola website.
