Congratulations to Bryony Aitchison, a WRoCAH-funded PhD student who has published two books as part of her Research Exchange Project with The Modernist Society in Manchester.
During her six-month placement, Bryony compiled and edited information and photographs for a book about twenty-first-century architecture in Manchester and Salford, GMC21. She also created a 48-page book focusing on the green spaces in Span estates. Spanscapes documents Bryony's experience of walking through the communal gardens in Span estates in London, Oxford, and Kent. Through text and photography, Spanscapes explores the relationship between Span’s ethos of creating community and the organisation of green space at the estates.
Bryony is working on a PhD thesis on The Queer Gardens of Modernism. Her supervisor, Dr Hannah Roche, said: "Many congratulations to Bryony on these remarkable achievements. Bryony is a very talented researcher, and it is wonderful to see her work in print".
