Warm congratulations to Dr Nicoletta Asciuto, who has been awarded a Vice-Chancellor's Teaching Award in recognition of her excellent and inspiring teaching, and her extraordinary work as Chair of the Department's Board of Examiners.
Nicoletta teaches widely across our undergraduate and Masters programmes, and was part of the team behind our innovative writing strand.
Nicoletta's modules on 'Modernism and Technology' and 'Found in Translation' represent a valued addition to the Department's undergraduate teaching. Students are inspired by Nicoletta's supportive and engaging teaching, and delighted to get to grips with literary study in a different way, travelling to archives and museums for 'Modernism and Technology' and engaging in their own translation work for 'Found in Translation'. Students especially commended Nicoletta for her innovative approaches, and her reassuring and supportive manner, which boosts students' confidence and gives them the courage to try out new approaches and ideas.
Head of Department, Professor Helen Smith, commented that 'Nicoletta has given a tremendous amount to students and colleagues in the Department of English and Related Literature. She is an extraordinary teacher, who inspires students to innovate within and beyond the classroom, and whose exemplary practice has also inspired colleagues'.
