Distance in the long eighteenth century

Posted on 7 August 2020

Registration still open for this international postgraduate conference!

In May the CECS Postgraduate Forum Team began organising an international postgraduate conference, Distance in the long eighteenth century, with the Enlightenment Romanticism Contemporary Culture Research Unit at the University of Melbourne.

The conference runs until 14 August 2020. We have live roundtable discussions, plenaries, and workshops presented by academics from New Zealand, Australia, and the UK. We also have 35 postgraduate speakers who have presented pre-recorded papers and have over 150 delegates worldwide from nearly 60 institutions.

Our initial vision for the conference was a half-day affair at CECS, but with COVID-19 and the desire to remain connected, we expanded and have now brought together not just the York postgraduate community, but postgraduates from all over the world. We are only in the first week of the conference and delegate numbers are still rising. As it stands, people have viewed pre-recorded papers almost 500 times in 3 days.

We want to draw attention to the CECS postgraduate community's ongoing efforts to support global postgraduate research despite the physical restrictions, and invite students from the Department of English who might want to enjoy listening to some papers.

Registration is still open, so if you would like to join, please email distanceconference2020@gmail.com to sign up!
