Dickens After Dickens by Dr Emily Bell

White Rose University Press (WRUP) has announced the publication of Dickens After Dickens. Released to coincide with the 150^th anniversary of Dickens’s death, the collection of research is edited by alumna and former staff member at York, Dr Emily Bell (Loughborough University) and features a chapter by Professor John Bowen, Department of English and Related Literature.

It offers a creative and accessible discussion of Dickens’s continued and evolving influence, and the nature of his legacy across the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.

The volume shows the surprising resonances that Dickens continues to have, arguing that his impact can be seen in mainstream cultural phenomena such as HBO’s TV series The Wire and Donna Tartt’s novel The Goldfinch, as well as in diverse areas such as Norwegian literature, video games and neo-Victorian fiction. It discusses Dickens as a biographical figure, an intertextual moment, and a medium through which to explore contemporary concerns around gender and representation.

This is the latest monograph to be published by White Rose University Press, joining the successful Star Carr volumes, the Occupation diaries of Madeleine Blaess and, most recently, a collected volume on Applied Linguistics.
