This important volume offers comprehensive coverage of English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish Romanticism, analysing different phases of the British Romantic movement and the historical and political currents that shaped them. The volume takes in male and female, canonical and uncanonical, writers across the entire range of genres.
York is well represented in the Handbook, with chapters from Professors Jon Mee, Gillian Russell, and Dr Jim Watt, writing about 'The Revolutionary Decade', 'The Regulation of Theatres', and 'Oriental Hebraism'. The volume's editor, David Duff, is Professor of Romanticism at Queen Mary University of London, and a triple alumnus of the department. He studied English at York, where he also took the Romantics MA and wrote a PhD under the supervision of Timothy Webb and John Birtwhistle.
The book launch will accompany this year's annual Stephen Copley lecture, where Professor Duff will speak on 'Wordsworth's Anglo-French Pamphlet: Public and Private Codes in A Letter to the Bishop of Llandaff'.
