David's lifelong love of South African literature, and record of prestigious and influential publications mean he has been awarded a prestigious A1-rating from South Africa's National Research Foundation. This honour is only awarded to academics who undertake internationally-respected, field-transforming work over a sustained period.
David comments, "York has provided a platform for research and teaching in southern African studies for decades, and I'm very grateful to my department and colleagues for their support. My work relies heavily on the outward-facing, cosmopolitan approach of my department to the discipline of English."
David's research interests are in postcolonial studies: postcolonial theory, critical formations in postcolonial countries, anglophone African writing, South African literature, and theories and practices of cultural translation.
