The Department of English and Related Literature has received 92% for 'Overall Satisfaction' in the 2019 National Student Survey (NSS).
The NSS is a nationwide survey of final-year students in higher and further education that encourages them to give honest feedback about a variety of aspects of their university experience, including their department and course. This helps prospective students to make informed choices and also influences real change in future students’ experiences, from institution-level to course-level.
The University as a whole was rated highest of the Russell Group universities in the survey for overall satisfaction.
The Department placed first in the surveyed Russell Group universities for 'Organisation and Management' and achieved over 90% satisfaction in three of the assessed areas:
These fantastic results were welccomed by everyone in the department. Emily, a third year undergraduate, reflected on her own experience of studying here:
"As an undergraduate, it feels like the academics (as well as being very interesting themselves!) are truly interested in your ideas, and keen to support you as a whole person. Whilst the course gives a great sense of different periods and genres, the department make a real effort to include a wide range of voices, and allow the course to change and grow over time, for example with the introduction of the fantastic Modernism’s Queer Spaces module last year. The course offers the opportunity to pursue your interests, and the assessment system provides the time and space to write essays that genuinely matter to you."
