Professor David Attwell, Head of the Department of English and Related Literature, has been shortlisted for the 2016 Alan Paton Award, for his book, J.M. Coetzee and the Life of Writing: Face to Face with Time.
The Alan Paton Award, named for the author of Cry, the Beloved Country, is conferred annually for meritorious works of non-fiction by contemporary South African writers, as part of the South African Sunday Times Literary Awards.
Speaking at the Franschhoek Literary Festival, Sunday Times books editor Jennifer Platt said the 2016 shortlist finalists represent “books of quality, that take the temperature and pulse of the nation”.
