The Department of English and Related Literature at York this week confirmed its place among the world's most highly regarded departments for English Language and Literature. Retaining its position of 2013, the department once again is ranked 26th in the world, and 7th among UK universities in the QS rankings. Head of Department David Attwell comments, 'It's indeed wonderful to see the distinguished teaching and research in English at York being acknowledged in the world rankings. This is a superb tribute to the creativity and dedication of all our colleagues.'
Published annually since 2004, QS World University Rankings® is the most trusted university ranking in the world. The University of York scores very highly in the newly published QS Subject rankings 2014 with a UK top 7 and world top 26 ranking in English Language and Literature.
The rankings are based on a survey of over 600 universities from 27 countries around the world, which saw more than 50,000 academics and employers consulted. Universities were scored according to academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact (number of citations per paper).
