Monika Fludernik is a distinguished narratologist, and the co-editor, with Marie-Laure Ryan, of a forthcoming volume of essays titled Narrative Factuality (16 December 2019, de Gruyter). The final section of this handbook considers historical (diachronic) and transcultural perspectives. Her talk will focus on the theoretical issues linked to diachrony and transcultural analysis, and particularly discuss the preliminary insights to be gained from the contributions to the handbook, with a view towards a larger transtemporal and transcultural examination of the uses of narrative.
