Shakespeare set Hamlet in Elsinore. The castle at Elsinore (Kronborg Castle) has since made the play its own.
As appearances by John Gielgud, Laurence Olivier, Richard Burton, Christopher Plummer, Michael Redgrave, Derek Jacobi, Kenneth Branagh and Jude Law attest, it has become a badge of honour to play Hamlet there. The exhibition ‘Hamlet at Elsinore 1816-2016’ tells the fascinating story of the many landmark productions of Hamlet and other Shakespearean plays which have taken place at Kronborg Castle in Elsinore for over two centuries.
