Our ultimate goal is to fabricate electronic devices built on the nanometre scale and which operate by controlling the movement of electrons based on their spin rather than charge. Such spintronic devices offer higher recording density and faster operating speeds than is possible with conventional charge-based devices.
To achieve this ambitious goal we are developing and characterising new spintronic materials, investigating spin-polarised electron current and developing innovative approaches for fabricating nanometre scale electronic devices.
