Biography

Dr Simon Bale (PhD, FHEA) is a lecturer in the School of Physics, Engineering & Technology where he completed his PhD in the field of radio frequency electronics and microwave engineering in 2012. His current research interests include oscillators and atomic clocks, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and shielding and microelectronic design optimisation using bio-inspired methods and techniques.

He has experience in research knowledge transfer and has worked as a researcher and on several successful industrial collaborations including projects with QinetiQ and Keysight.

He is currently a co-investigator (CI) on the EPSRC project “Compact Quantum Clocks For Precise And Autonomous Position Navigation And Timing” (EP/Y004582/1) and a CI on the “European Doctoral Network for Safe and Sustainable Electromagnetic Shielding Solutions for Mobility.”

His administrative roles include 4th year engineering project coordinator.
