PhD Student...Sharon Choe

"I have been part of the department for almost 10 years now, from undergraduate to doctoral studies, and during my time CECS has been an integral part of my experience at the University of York. The friendly and academically rigorous environment at the Centre has ensured my consistent development as a scholar. I chose to stay at York and do the MA in Literature of the Romantic Period, 1775–1832 because of the wonderful support and excitement at receiving my application. This extended to my PhD application. When applying for my PhD, I received generous and thoughtful advice from staff. During my time at CECS, I truly have felt like the staff have my best interests in mind.

The community is small and close-knit, and it feels more like a family. The support and camraderie between students is one of the defining factors of CECS. The Postgraduate Forum is well-known for its friendly environment where you can almost “test-drive” your conference papers or thesis ideas."

Sharon’s doctoral research examines William Blake’s poetry from 1794–1820, eighteenth-century reception of Old Norse myth (Northern Antiquarianism), and Disability Studies.
