"I owe so much to my decision to take the MA in Eighteenth Century Studies here at York, and I’ll be ever grateful for the welcoming nature of the department and enthusiasm of its staff. Before starting my MA, I completed my BA in History at the University of Derby. I was apprehensive about coming from a much smaller institution, but this was soon put to rest within the first few weeks.
The interdisciplinary nature of the MA is constantly rewarding, providing a vibrant and dynamic space for research seminars and public lectures, as well as a range of modules. I took a mixture of both history and literature modules which was really engaging; it provided me with a new perspective towards research and I feel really benefitted my writing. A particular highlight of my MA was the dissertation. The flexibility and scope that is allowed for offers not only endless research potential, but also creative ways of approaching familiar topics. This, alongside the wonderful group of people I met while completing the Masters, meant that the year was a real highlight for me.
Since completing the MA,I have been lucky enough to stay on at CECS and am now undertaking a collaborative PhD with the National Trust. "
