In his epic film Peterloo, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Mike Leigh portrays a bloody episode in British history – the infamous Peterloo Massacre. His drama movingly depicts the important events of 16 August 1819 in Manchester, when local militia, backed up by professional cavalry, charged into a peaceful crowd who had gathered to demand democratic reform and economic redress.
