So You Want to Submit a Journal Article! Strategies for Navigating Peer Review

Wednesday 4 October 2017, 1.00PM

Speaker(s): Eugenia Zuroski (McMaster University)

Dr. Eugenia Zuroski, Associate Professor of English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University, is editor-in-chief of Eighteenth-Century Fiction(ECF). She is also co-editor, with Jack Lynch, of the Routledge book series “British Literature in the Eighteenth Century.”

In this workshop, she provides an overview of the submission process to peer-reviewed scholarly journals, and discusses strategies for navigating that process, from selecting a journal to which to send your work, to communicating effectively with editors, to making the most of readers’ reports. This is an opportunity for you to ask pragmatic questions about scholarly publishing (for example: How long does peer review take? What should my cover letter say?) as well as to learn more about what happens behind the scenes of an academic journal and how publishing fits into the broader picture of scholarly labour and conversation.

Participants should come to the workshop prepared to ask specific questions about journal submissions and peer review. In addition, prior to attending, participants are invited to identify two or three journals in their field that they are interested in submitting work to (whether now or in the future), familiarizing themselves with the submission guidelines for each and bringing these guidelines to the workshop for discussion.

Sandwiches will be served.
