I decided to do YSIS because I've always wanted to teach and the fact that I'd worked with after school clubs or little groups of children before, it wasn't really an insight into teaching itself.
I do two different kinds of work. Sometimes it's just typing things up, and sometimes I actually get to work with the children to teach the lesson alongside the teacher, to really get to work one on one with them, give them the attention that they need and help them learn better.
I've seen both the good sides and the bad sides of everything, but it's been a real challenge to get involved and help them all out. I did my ten week placement, and they actually said, Do you know what, stay on, come back next year, get involved with the other pupils. It's just such a rewarding experience to know that I've actually had that impact. And when they came to me and said 'thanks Miss, I really understand that now', I was just really pleased with that.
I love it, I absolutely love it. Before I was swaying between social work or teaching or even something else to do with children, but now I definitely want to teach. I've seen exactly what's involved in it, I've seen what the kids get out of it and I've seen how important it is, and that's something I'd really like to do when I'm older.
