Congratulations to our PERC PhD students

Our Psychology in Education Research Centre (PERC) student, Fairuz Rusdi successfully defended her PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education.

The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 11 October 2019. Her research topic focused on 'Burnout, work engagement, and resilience among Malaysian university academics'. Fairuz was supervised by Professor Rob Klassen.

Recently defended PhD theses

Natalie Smith successfully defended her PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 30 August 2019. Her research topic focused on 'Reading comprehension of primary school children with English as an Additional Language'. Natalie was supervised by Dr Claudine Bowyer-Crane.

Waleed Al Hashmi successfully defended his PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 14 June 2019. His research topic focused on 'Developing a Situational Judgement Test for Admission into Initial Teacher Education in Oman: An Exploratory Study'. Waleed was supervised by Professor Rob Klassen.

Madeline Crosswaite successfully defended her PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 10 May 2019. Her research topic focused on 'Teacher beliefs about the aetiology of individual differences in educationally relevant traits, and the relevance of behavioural genetics to education'. Madeline was supervised by Dr Kathryn Asbury.

Man Jiang successfully defended her PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 22 March 2019. Her research topic focused on 'Chinese students’ adjustment to studying in UK Higher Education: Academic self-efficacy and psychological well-being'. Man was supervised by Professor Rob Klassen.

Khayala Ismayilova successfully defended her PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 8 March 2019. Her research topic focused on 'University teachers’ self-efficacy for research and teaching and its relationship with their job satisfaction'. Khayala was supervised by Professor Rob Klassen.

Zeyang Yang successfully defended his PhD thesis and met the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy in Education. The award was approved by the Standing Committee on Assessment on 18 January 2019. His research topic focused on 'An exploration of problematic smartphone use among Chinese and British university students'. Zeyang was supervised by Dr Kathryn Asbury.
