Harnessing the potential of home languages in the primary classroom
The Department of Education has awarded Beth Bailey its departmental PhD studentship for 2014/15, for her research project "Harnessing the potential of home languages in the primary classroom: Investigating and enhancing teachers' knowledge, confidence and willingness".
Beth holds an undergraduate degree from York (English and Linguistics) and then an MA in Applied Linguistics for English Language Teaching. She has taught English as a Foreign Language in schools in the North East.
Emma Marsden, Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Language Learning Research, says 'This is a particularly fitting topic given that one of the early innovators in this area was the late Professor Eric Hawkins, from the University of York.'
