Mentor Handbook

PGCE Mentors Handbook 2024-25

Schools, Community & Society (SCS) Handbook

Please note: The Student Guide containing information about assignments and Whole School Issues programme is online and requires a University of York login. If you require any information from the Student Guide, please contact education-pgce-administrator@york.ac.uk or ask your trainee to show you this.

Mentor Pack

This mentor pack has been set up to complement and supplement the PGCE mentors’ handbook. It is designed to exemplify the parts of the process of mentoring ITE trainees and to give support and guidance in making judgements about trainees’ practice at the various course stages.

For each curriculum area of the PGCE, you will find the following:

  • Generic documents (common to every curriculum area), such as an ITE Mentor Standards self-assessment checklist, exemplar timetables for each stage of the course, host teacher FAQs and common trainee scenarios with solutions
  • Curriculum area-specific documents, such as exemplar forms and reviews, a description of a UoY ITE partnership curriculum area school-based mentor, and subject-specific target exemplars

We welcome suggestions about how we can update and improve this mentor pack. Please send your thoughts and ideas to education-pgce-administrator@york.ac.uk.
