I am the Curriculum Area Lead for the Science PGCE Programme at the University of York. In this role I develop and support trainee science teachers as they progress through their Initial Teacher training programme. I have been involved in science education throughout my career and am extremely passionate about effective science teaching and learning and promoting the importance of science education and its impact on students and wider society.
I have worked in various science education sectors including secondary schools, further education colleges and in the private sector for STEM Learning. I started as a school science technician before gaining my PGCE and then working as a teacher. In 2005 I left Tower Hamlets College to become a professional development leader at the National Science Learning Centre (STEM Learning). During my time at STEM Learning I was involved in many science education projects and designing and delivering residential CPD experiences for science teachers and technicians from across the UK. I am also very closely involved with external science education organisations such as the ASE, RSC, IOP, SAPS and CLEAPSS.
I now support trainee teachers to become effective, knowledgeable and engaging practitioners to ensure future generations are scientifically literate.
