I joined the Department of Education in 2018 as part of the University of York Science Education Group (UYSEG).
I have extensive experience in the development of teaching and learning resources for students aged 10 to 18 as well as curriculum innovation and design.
I have been an active member of the Association of Science Education for over twenty years including as chair of the 11 to 19 committee. In 2021 I was appointed as chair elect of the association.
After graduating from the University of Cambridge in Natural Sciences I completed a PGCE via the university’s department of education before working as a science teacher and Head of Chemistry in Hertfordshire comprehensive schools.
During my time teaching I became involved in the 21st Century Science project which led to a freelance career in writing and developing science education resources for students from age 10 to 18.
My particular area of expertise is curriculum design and I currently combine working part-time for UYSEG with curriculum consultancy to both UK-based and international organisations.
I am currently the chemistry lead for the large, research informed curriculum development project: Best Evidence Science Teaching (BEST).
