I am the Curriculum Area Leader for the Maths PGCE Programme at the University of York. In this role I support and develop trainee secondary Maths teachers as they progress through their Initial Teacher Training programme. I am passionate about high quality Maths teaching that is underpinned by clear conceptual development, promoting deep understanding and developing problem solving skills in pupils.
I have taught Maths in three different comprehensive schools and worked as an Advanced Skills Teacher, responsible for the professional development of Maths teachers in a school partnership. Following this I worked as a Maths consultant which gave me opportunities to work alongside many teachers in different schools focusing on improving the quality of teaching and learning at a classroom level and implementing whole school numeracy strategies. Now I support Maths trainees as they embark on their careers as creative, effective, knowledgeable and inspiring teachers who will share their enthusiasm for Maths and its application to solving problems with the next generation of young people.
