Profile
Biography
I am currently a PGCE Science tutor in the department having been a full time member of the University of York Science Education Group (UYSEG) from 2000 until the end of 2015. During this time I directed the Salters-Nuffield Advanced Biology project, which developed a context-led A level course. I also worked on the Twenty First Century Science GCSE project and the York Science Key Stage 3 project.
I joined UYSEG after ten years teaching biology and science in a large comprehensive school where I was Head of Biology. Prior to that, I had obtained a PGCE from University of Bath after working for the Marine Conservation Society on a campaign to reduce coastal pollution. I had graduated from University College of North Wales with a BSc in Botany, and then gained a PhD investigating the salt tolerance of plants at Lancaster University.
I have undertaken consultancy work including reviewing Egyptian Biology textbooks for UNESCO on behalf of the Egyptian Ministry of Education.
