‘Top ten tips for gaining ethical approval’ by second year PhD student Laura Louise Nicklin is the first #ERG blog post in the series. Laura reflects upon her own experiences and offers tips for a smooth ethical approval application.
Chelsea Swift, who has set up the site with fellow research students, said, “We hope the site will also function as a support network for postgraduate researchers. It serves as a space for more experienced students and academics to share their experiences, offering guidance on various aspects of the PhD process and engaging in educational research.”
There are around 100 PhD students studying in the Department of Education at University of York. The Education Research Group alternates transferable skills workshops, in which a specific aspect of research training (e.g. dissemination of research findings) is addressed in-depth, with student-led sessions. The student sessions are intended as a friendly, informal forum in which to practice communication skills, as well as to discuss uncertainties or developments in the research process. Sessions emphasise student participation and sharing of any previous and current experiences.
