The 2013 YUSU (York University Students’ Union) awards for excellence in teaching and supervision were presented on 26 June 2013. Students from across the campus had made nominations in a wide range of categories recognising the excellent work of staff.
Speeches that emphasised the importance of the occasion and celebrated the success of members of staff were made by Brian Cantor (Vice Chancellor), Jane Grenville (Deputy Vice Chancellor) and John Robinson (chair of the University Teaching Committee).
The Department values very highly all our staff and students and celebrates the excellent professional and academic relationships that exist within the department.
We are delighted to announce that two of our colleagues have received awards:
Kath Armstrong, Undergraduate Programme Administrator, received a Highly Commended award for her excellent work. Comments from students include: “Everything she does is to benefit everyone else and it’s amazing to have that constant support”; “She has patience, time and kindness for everyone and is quite frankly an asset to the department”.
Benedetta Bassetti was named as Supervisor of the Year. Student comments included: “Without Benedetta's enthusiasm, support and experience I know I would feel bewildered in progressing onto the next stage of my life. She has nurtured my passion for educational research”.
