Summary
There are around 1.5 million learning-disabled people in the UK. However, they are often
unable to access or engage with research due to the methods employed for data collection
being inaccessible, and sometimes the aims and priorities of the research itself.
This project will develop data collections infrastructure that is genuinely inclusive of
learning-disabled people. It will work with young, learning-disabled people to explore their
communication preferences and to develop accessible data collection tools. In partnership
with learning-disabled young people and their key adults, we will build an open-access
library for researchers that can support more inclusive and accessible research projects.

The project is made up of four work packages, including :

  • WP1, a scoping review of the literature
  • WP2, an ethnographic study to explore the communication of young people
  • WP3, co-production workshops
  • WP4, an online, open-source toolbox of data collection tools
