On Friday the Education department said goodbye to Professor Mary Styslinger, from the University of South Carolina, who was here as a visiting professor for a few weeks. Professor Styslinger's research is on literary education, particularly critical reading strategies: how do we teach pupils to read "with and against the canon" of classic literature? Mary attended many of our classes and won over everyone with her warm personality and keen intelligence. She also did a stellar session with our Year Three Perspectives on Literacy students, who read a Chinese poem while making sure to activate their strategic reading. Mary will now finish writing her new book on the subject, which we hope to read (strategically!) very soon. Safe travels back to America, Mary
