Dr Toseeb's research, which was published in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence, analysed data relating to 17,000 young people in the UK. The study found that children who were bullied between the ages of 11 and 14 were more likely to have mental health issues by their 17th birthday. The study also showed that young people who bullied their siblings were also at higher risk of mental health difficulties in later life.
News of the research findings was featured in the UK and international press.
