In the past year, Centre for Research on Education and Scocial Justice (CRESJ) members Dr José Luis Mateos-González and Professor Paul Wakeling have been working on understanding patterns of access to postgraduate education in the UK, focusing on how social class shapes the latter. This has caught the attention of The Sutton Trust, a prestigious think tank that seeks to advance social mobility through education, commissioning a report to our colleagues.
This report, which is expected to be released in early 2021, will investigate inequalities in postgraduate access, with special emphasis on socio-economic differences. The authors will also be looking at how different levels of tuition fees at master's level are associated with different access patterns, and the contribution of academic factors like first-degree attainment and first-degree institution.
