Dr. Sarah Carrica-Ochoa visits from University of Navarra, Pamplona, Spain

Working jointly with Dr. Eleanor Brown, Centre for Research on Education and Social Justice (CRESJ), they researched into "Experiences of Latin American University students of intercultural sensitivity development in Europe."

The aim of this research was to know and understand the representation of intercultural sensitivity from the immigrant students’ point of view through their own experiences. The intention was to understand what occurs and what changes in the perceptions of young immigrants about themselves and their social relations. The project helped us to have a deep description of immigrants’ experiences and the dynamics of their negotiation of their old and new identities. The study of the emotional component of Intercultural Competence was conducted through a mixed perspective, using quantitative (scale and questionnaire online) and qualitative (narrative interviews).

Sarah writes about her experiences of her time at the University and in York: “This experience has served to me not only to continue developing myself as a researcher but also to know a lovely department, with strong professionals and memorable persons.
