PGCE

Why do you want to be a teacher and why, in particular, a secondary Physics teacher?

After finishing my degree I wanted to do something using the Physics that I’d learnt. I’ve always enjoyed teaching, so becoming a Physics teacher was an obvious option! I toyed with the idea of doing a PhD but then realised it was too far away from the “real world”. That’s when I realised I wanted to do something with people.

Why did you choose the University of York’s PGCE Physics course as your route into teaching?

York is a great city and I’d heard great things about the course. The employment figures didn’t look bad either.

What have been some of the highlights of your training in school and university so far?

I’ve really enjoyed the support I’ve had so far from my tutors, both at university and in school. The staff are so dedicated and helpful. The uni-to-school time ratio is great, and I’ve felt supported all the way through.

How would you describe/rate the quality of your training in school and university so far?

Great! They keep teaching us to be enthusiastic and passionate in our teaching - and since they deliver the training in an enthusiastic and passionate manner, it makes all the difference.

What advice do you have for people interested in applying to the York PGCE course?

Make sure you’re ready to dedicate a lot of your time to this course - it requires a lot of commitment. Further than that, go for it and enjoy the ride.
